Cookie policy – Nzgolfodds
A site about golf odds can run with very few technical tools, and this policy lists those it does use. Cookies are small text files saved by a browser; entries in local and session storage and counting pixels operate alike and are covered together.
Governing law
Where cookies and similar tools gather personal information, the Privacy Act 2020 applies, and its information privacy principles (section 22) are the measure. A lawful purpose tied to the running of the site justifies collection (IPP 1), and the people concerned are told what is gathered and why (IPP 3). Reasonable security safeguards protect the data (IPP 5); it is not held longer than necessary (IPP 9); any disclosure outside New Zealand follows IPP 12. A choice given through the banner can be changed whenever wished.
Necessary files
The site could not function dependably without these files. They maintain a session, balance load across servers, guard forms from abuse and record the cookie choice. They are set with no separate choice. Session files lapse when the browser shuts, and the recorded choice lasts no more than twelve months.
Preferences and statistics
Preference files remember settings such as the odds table opened last. Statistics files count page views and indicate which pages are read, so content can be improved. Both kinds wait for a choice in the banner. IP addresses are shortened before analysis, and no cross-site behaviour profiles are built.
Content from other services
A video or map embedded from another service can set its own files, in which case that provider’s privacy rules also apply and any objection is made to it. Advertising cookies that build personalised profiles are not set by Nzgolfodds unless the banner clearly allows it.
Changing a choice
Through the footer link "Cookie settings" a choice can be revised or withdrawn at any point, and withdrawal takes effect going forward. Browser privacy settings also permit blocking and deleting cookies. Once necessary files are deleted, the banner returns and a feature or two may briefly stop working.

Complaints about how personal information is handled can go to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. The site’s privacy policy describes that handling.
